The Rights of The Child

When I’m around children, I can’t help but smile. I admire their free-spirit nature. I admire their ability to look at their environment and world with awe. You can see a child laughing as their running with no particular aim in mind.

Children are the most precious beings yet in our society, there can be a lot of neglect and abuse of the child. We have to treat the child with love. We have to be able to provide the child with resources to grow and develop. We have to create a space where the child feels safe and is excited to run and play and discover their environment.

For a child to grow and discover themselves and their potential, they need to be in a nurturing environment. Yet, I read too many news stories where the child is neglected. Some children are sold for money. Some children are physically abused and tortured. Some children are abandoned. Some children are starving. There is so much abuse and neglect of the precious beings that God brings to this world. This has to stop.

We need to have more discussions and take more action towards children’s rights in Nigeria. The child should be celebrated. The child should be brought up in a home where they are safe. The child should be playing, laughing and learning. The child should be treated with love and care because the child is a gift.
