Ways You Can Make the Most of the Holiday Season

The holiday season is an exciting time to get together with family members and friends but it can also be a stressful period. There are a few things you can do to stress less.

The holiday season is an exciting time to get together with family members and friends. But during the preparations for the festivities, the reunion of family members and friends, the excitement could turn to stresses and anxiety. There are a few things you can do below to make sure you stress less and make the most of the celebrations.

Take Moments to Tune Out

One way to tune out is by spending a few minutes or hours to yourself. Try to have moments where you refrain from the use of technology. Social media is a great way to connect with those near and far but occasionally, you can sign out.

When you tune out, you get in touch with yourself. You get in touch with your immediate environment. You become aware of where you are at the moment. When you allow yourself to be focused in the present moment, you avoid feelings of stress or anxiety.

Being present is important not only for yourself but for those around you. Being present allows you to engage fully with your family members and friends which shows you value the time you’re spending with someone else. I’ve had moments where I’m having dinner with someone who’s constantly looking at their phone. And I’ll admit,  it makes me want to spend time doing other things.

Also, being present allows you to be in the moment. When we become engrossed in taking pictures or videos, we forget to simply be where we are. We become too focused on capturing the moment.

Prioritize What Matters Most

If you’re the individual who hosts the family gatherings, make sure you have a schedule you can handle. That way, you’re not only working to get things ready but also having fun in the process. Making lists helps you to know what the most important tasks are at hand.

You can also use your calendar to plan what you’d like to do each week. Be it shopping for friends and relatives to making phone calls or decorating the home.

Ask for Help in Completing Tasks

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with responsibilities you have in the home, be honest with those around you. You should ask for help in getting things done. If there’s a task that you’re comfortable with passing over to someone else, then do so.
