This Thing About Dating

The Queens College Student Women's Center hosted an event, a panel discussion about college dating.

The organization I belong to on campus hosted an event about dating and relationships. We had a panel of students with different relationship experiences and status. They discussed their ideas on dating.

At the event, there was a lot said about the apprehension in making the first move. But that shouldn’t be the case. Rather, if you have feelings for someone, you should go after what you want.

Advice from College Panel

  • Don’t wait for the man or woman to ask you out.
  • When in a relationship, don’t spend time obsessing and comparing yourself to your significant other’s ex.
  • Be willing to be open with your partner about everything. It helps you get a better understanding of each other’s personality and needs.

My Thoughts on Being Single

Your relationship status does not define you. It’s a word. If you give that word a negative connotation, it’s because you’ve made the choice. I sometimes associate it with being negative. Then I have to remind myself it’s not right. There’s nothing wrong with being single. I’m sure we’ve all had those moments when we’ll spend time mulling over a relationship. I do believe that at the end of the day, loving yourself enough is what’s most important in life.

I’ve found that accepting and loving who you are does things. It makes you happier. It makes you appreciate your life. It also attracts you to other people. Who wants to be around someone that’s not comfortable in their own skin? Would you want to be around someone that’s bitter, that’s constantly kicking themselves down?

Love yourself enough because that affects how you are. It affects how you live your life. It affects how you approach others.

Please, always remember that you are amazing, just as you are, you are enough.
